Sample Resignation Letters

Your resignation letter should be upbeat and positive. It should be written to your immediate supervisor, expressing warm feelings for the company, and regrets that you can no longer work there. Don’t be negative or drag in grievances. At some point they will be contacted for references regarding your employment and any negatives at this point will be remembered more than the time worked there.

Dear [immediate supervisor]:

This letter is intended to serve as my notice to terminate my employment with [company name], as of [termination date]. My reasons for termination are due to a divergence of personal philosophy that are in no way related to our personal and/or professional relationship in the operations of the [locale name] area. In fact, it has been an honor and a pleasure to have had the opportunity to work with you, and I wish you success in all that you do going forward. I should also wish to extend my most sincere gratitude to the [company name] family for affording me the support and opportunities that, to this point, have led to a long and satisfying career with the company. I tender this resignation with a heavy heart, but also with a sound resolve. I wish you all the best.

Sincerely,
