Electrical Controls Engineer (2673) Ohio

The Controls Engineer supports service/support, developing electrical controls systems and designs, PLC/HMI programming, data collection and optimization of control systems, and assists with equipment implementation and startup of machines in the semiconductor industry like vacuum coating and automation. This is a full-time exempt position.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in installation, start-up, and hand-off acceptance of equipment and upgrades worldwide.
  • Execute and meet agreed timelines set by the Customer and Project Management.
  • Summarize work activities, collect data, and send clear and concise e-mails to team.
  • Provide remote customer support via email, phone, or other means.
  • Ensure safety practices are followed and maintained including near-miss reporting.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and PPE as needed whenever potential hazards exist.
  • Make use of methods, checklists, and procedures established by Engineering.
  • Participate in Failure Analysis, troubleshooting, and feedback to the team.
  • Accountable for:
    • Support of manufacturing facilities, including remote.
    • Designing, programming, and coordination of control systems and projects.
    • Maintaining and updating of electrical drawings, ensuring the tracking of equipment changes are documented, and drawings are always current.
    • Troubleshooting and problem-solving of equipment controls related problems.
    • Interfacing with domestic and international companies to ensure controls policies/standards are understood and being adhered to.
    • Maintaining effective communication levels while fostering team building.
  • Ensures adherence to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Works closely with Customers, Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Aftermarket and Project Management with minimal oversight to achieve project milestones.
  • Ensure certifications are current.
  • Work with Manager to continue development path
  • Reports to an Engineering Manager or head of department.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7+ years of controls engineering experience
  • May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty.

Skills:

  • Proven ability in understanding, knowledge, and experience in controls engineering techniques and practices, troubleshoot electrical/electronic control systems while practicing safe working behaviors/requirements.
  • Ability to link global operations of tools for pooling performance data and adhering to copy exact philosophy.
  • Experience using Autodesk and AutoCAD drafting software to create electrical schematics and panel layouts.
  • Demonstrated experience with Siemens S7/TIA and/or Rockwell Automation Logix platform PLC’s, including ladder and function block diagram.
  • Familiar and experience with Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) including PanelView Plus, PanelView Plus CE, and RSView SE.
  • Knowledge of EPLAN Fluid and EPLAN ProPanel
  • Good understanding/knowledge of motion controls including stepper motors, servo motors, and AC/DC Drives.
  • Experience with multi-tiered architecture, for example; C#, C++, VB.NET, HTML, XML and SQL.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment or other large complex electro-mechanical systems are a plus.
  • Experience with high voltage electrical, hazardous materials, thermal systems, and computer and PLC based control systems helpful.
  • Ability to setup, operate, troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software systems in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs on a beginner level, especially Excel Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.

  • Must be able to work well under pressure and maintain a positive and cooperative attitude while interfacing with customers and colleagues.
  • Establish and maintain a clean and safe work area following 5S practices while ensuring tools, equipment, and part inventory are well organized and stored properly.
  • Must be a self-starter and works efficiently.
  • Self-sufficiently performs a wide range of complex duties under minimal guidance from the department manager.
  • Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function as directed by the department manager.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical field, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field; or equivalent years of work experience.

Position Location:

  • Toledo, Ohio; Bowling Green, Ohio, or surrounding area

Travel:

  • Travel to customer sites alone or as part of a team.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a passport and other documentation as required for international travel.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time worldwide to customer or other company sites.

 Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to 8-12 hours per day.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis, according to work requirements.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required.
  • Must be able to fly both domestically and internationally.
