Supplier Quality Engineer (2257) Massachusetts

Supplier Quality Engineer is the quality interface between company and its supply base, being responsible for qualification, monitoring, analyzing defect trends, on-site audits, and continuous improvement of suppliers

Direct Reports: None – This is an individual contributor position with high visibility and critical path deliverables

Responsibilities and Deliverables:

  • Participate in selection and qualification of suppliers
  • Conduct supplier audits, document findings, and continually monitor improvement and mitigation plans
  • Establish SPC at suppliers for critical parts
  • Generate and analyze supplier quality metrics such as Pareto and trending
  • Train suppliers on quality tools and customer requirements; guide suppliers on root cause analysis
  • Establish FAI requirements and enforce industry and customer requirements with suppliers
  • Communicate with customers as needed on critical supplier-related issues and corrective actions
  • Establish mindset of “zero defect” with suppliers

Skills Required:

  • Basic understanding of Mechanical (GD&T) & Electrical drawings
  • Competence in various Quality Tools, such as 8-D, 5-why, fishbone, and Kepner-Tregoe
  • Knowledge of statistical process control and SPC tools
  • Understanding of LEAN principles and 5S
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability, Serviceability, and Cost Reduction practices
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite of Products, especially Excel, Word, and Power point
  • Skilled at establishing and maintaining effective relations between company and individual suppliers to obtain desired level of cooperation and collaboration
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and issues with minimal upper management intervention
  • Being able to adjust priorities with short notice in a fast-paced environment
  • In possession of excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel within and outside the country (25-50%)

Experience Required:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Mechanical, Quality, Reliability, Manufacturing Engineer, or equivalent position
  • Semiconductor industry experience is a plus
  • Proven leadership experience coordinating cross-functional team within company and/or supplier representative
  • Direct involvement in supplier quality or supplier management is a plus
  • Having worked under ISO 9001 or similar Quality Management System environment
  • Experience in internal audits and/or supplier audits
  • Minitab or other statistical software experience will be an advantage

Education Required: BA/BS degree in engineering, physics, or related sciences
