Process Engineer (2317) Japan


Responsible for process development of plasma based etch and/or deposition processes for a variety of materials and applications while maintaining high customer satisfaction and safety. Assigned projects will be both at customer sites as well as company site . Extended travel on longer term (1 year or more) projects in Asia will be required. This position is for an extended assignment (2 years or more) in Japan.


  • Designs, performs and analyzes process modifications aimed at meeting customer requirements and project goals, at customer sites
  • Prepares reports detailing results of activities and coordinate regular alignment between the field and Company headquarters
  • Coordination of technical activities at Customer sites in line with Company goals and customer expectations
  • Acts as primary technical interface between customers and representatives and Company headquarters
  • Conducts gap analysis between standard Company equipment performance and Customer specified requirements
  • Provides technical support and troubleshooting on products in the field to customers, field service engineers, and the process engineering group
  • Performs process set-up and demonstration runs on Customer samples to illustrate standard capabilities of Company equipment
  • Assists in new product development activities as necessary
  • Assists in technical sales support for process performance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Physics, or related discipline is required and
  • Two to seven years’ post educational experience in semiconductor processing with a focus on plasma based MEMS etch processes is required
  • Plasma enhanced deposition processing experience a plus
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, major credit card (for business travel), and passport


  • Ability to independently design, develop and test processes based on requirements set forth by Company or company’s customers
  • Ability to obtain necessary Visa(s) to support customers as assigned
  • Ability to communicate effectively interdepartmentally throughout the Company, and externally with customers, vendors, and the general public regarding equipment, processes, and applications is required
  • Ability to effectively deal with customers and negative situations
  • Ability to travel extensively for an extended period of time (two plus years) as required to support customer projects is required
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to independently drive process changes while at customer sites
  • Must have working knowledge of current required computer skills used in a networked office environment

  • The incumbent is routinely required to sit, stand, walk, touch, see, and hear
  • The incumbent may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds
  • While performing the regular duties of the position, the incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions.
