Analytical Lab Manager (2655) California Bay Area

This is leadership position which oversees all aspects of lab from development and execution of methodologies internally and with customers, building and leading a well-trained team for analytical testing of samples extracted from parts and surfaces in a safe manner, compile and interpret results of tests and analyses. Provide technical support or assistance to chemists or engineers. Possesses deeper understanding of lab equipment and trouble-shoot complex repair / performance issues.

Essential Job Functions

  • —-ICP-MS Ion Coupling Plasma Mass-spectrometry) experience and the understanding of the theory and full operation of an ICP-MS instrument.
  • —-IC (ION-Chromatography) experience. Thermo-fisher models
  • —-Conducts wide variety of laboratory procedures; performs challenging and detail orientated lab work in QC/QA lab
  • —-Completes high volume of work under limited direct supervision
  • —-Tests products and materials; produces compounds; records findings; operates lab equipment; develops new chemical processes and analyzes data
  • —-Maintains lab schedule and across shifts to support production needs, do capacity analysis based on forecast and make staffing decisions as necessary in a proactive manner
  • —-Performs automated and manual tests strictly according to approved procedures and methodology
  • —-Focuses on quality and integrity of samples in accordance with strict purity guidelines
  • —-Monitors product quality through testing
  • —-Utilizes automated analyzers; maintains equipment as appropriate
  • —-Works with various testing techniques and instrumentation
  • —-Maintains a high level of customer service and friendly atmosphere
  • —-Ensures all necessary tests are completed in a timely manner
  • —-Participates in and completes all assigned training programs
  • —-Maintains a clean, professional, and safe working environment in the laboratory
  • —-Maintains a team environment with other departments
  • —-Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EH&S principles and values; champions safety as necessary
  • —-Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position

Experience Requirement

  • –5-10 years experience in an analytical lab environment with min of 1 year in supervisory role
  • –Ability to read, interpret and follow written job instructions and directions
  • –Ability to read and understand safety procedures, including OSHA standards and regulations
  • –Good mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • –Expert on general lab procedures and practices
  • –Ability to multi-task; self motivated; prioritizes, and follow through on assignments
  • –Must be willing to work around and with chemicals, follow safety protocols, use PPE
  • –Experienced in various testing techniques and instrumentation
  • –Maintains a high level of customer service and friendly atmosphere
  • –Prior laboratory experience
  • –Good communication skills, both oral and written, at ease customer facing
  • –High level of enthusiasm and motivation skills required
  • –Ability to be a team player
  • –Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, various email and internet programs and applications

Education Requirement

  • –Masters or PhD in an appropriate technical discipline

This position requires an employee to be in a lab environment.  There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous.   Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location.  General lab noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
